When my little man first started eating baby food I went to the store and bought some glass jarred baby food. Carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, green beans and peas to start. He wasn’t (and still isn’t) into green beans or peas. After a month we moved on to apples, pears and bananas. He tried the apples and pears first. Then one day at lunch I broke out the bananas and they were pink. Strange. It really bothered me. I am sure there is something they put in them to keep them from expiring, but bananas are clearly not pink. At least none that I have ever eaten!
So I decided to look into making my own baby food. I did not like giving him something that bothered me so much, something that I would not want to eat.
It turns out bananas are the easiest:
take one banana, squish with your fork to desired consistency, serve immediately.
Couldn’t be easier.
Everything else is cook or bake, add some water or liquid from cooking, puree in blender, let cool, spoon into ice cube trays, freeze over night, pop into freezer bags. Easy as can be.
A great place to start is www.nurture-baby.com. She has great recipes and gives you an idea of how to prepare the meats. She does add cinnamon and other spices, but I held off on that until he was 9 months.
Have a great weekend!
