hair cut today

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010
Today I gave Brooks his fourth hair cut. It was waaay past time. This is the before picture, above.

The handsome man after, above. He was so good while I was cutting it. He sat on the table and squirted himself in the face with the water bottle. Not too shabby for giving my second hair cut, if I do say so myself (ha!). Just don’t look too closely! My mom gave him his first two cuts, but he was so crazy and naughty the second time, she doesn’t seem to be available now when he needs one. Hum, seems fishy to me. So, out of necessity I can add barber to my resume. Who is next?

This picture is just for the cute cheeks. They are so kissable.

Happy Wednesday!

Thrifted Table

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
I bought this table at a thrift sale a couple weekends ago and I wanted to share. It is the perfect height for a bar stool. I can’t wait to use it as a craft table for Brooks and I. I can’t decide where I want to put it in the house, but I really like it. It has little hooks on two sides and a towel rack on the other two.  I want to eventually replace those with a holder for a roll of kraft paper. Great find, don’t you think?

Are you enjoying your second day of summer? It is H-O-T out there!

As a side note, today is my parents anniversary. Happy 37 years of love mom and dad!

Happy Summer

Monday, June 21st, 2010
Today is the first day of summer. The picture above is of Brooks one year ago today. He was just sitting up on his own. Now, one year later…
…He is running around all over the place. We got this octopus sprinkler last year and we broke it out this year. He really likes it. The first day we got it out he kept touching it and saying “oohh”.
With our fair skin we get sunburned really easily, so I slathered him with so much sunscreen he was white (well, whiter than normal!). With all the sunscreen in his hair it was spiked out like crazy. He was so cute and had such a great time.

Happy Summer!

Handwritten Recipe Book

Monday, June 14th, 2010
My mom and dad made this recipe book for me for Christmas. It is so thoughtful and special I wanted to share it with you. They scanned in handwritten recipes from relatives and dear friends, pulled the handwriting off the cards in Photoshop and cut and paste them into matching pages. My dad figured out how to use Photoshop during this process. He tricked us by calling and saying he was working on a different project and asking how to do this and that. My dad always amazes me. There is nothing he can’t figure out.
They made pages to introduce the cooks with pictures, bios and fun facts.
There are pages and pages of recipes. I know this project took hours and hours. I am so appreciative of their time and effort. It is so thoughtful of my mom to record these recipes and handwriting. So many recipes are now typed out, this is a special gift that I am so thankful to have received.
Thank you to my thoughtful and creative mom and dad!

Starfish summer decor

Monday, June 7th, 2010
This is a quick and easy summer decoration idea. All you need are starfish (found on vacations or at a craft supply store like Hobby Lobby) and your material of choice to tie them together. I used jute, also found at a craft store.

Tie the starfish on the ribbon a couple of times, space them out the distance you want, and hang.

Enjoy your quick and simple summer decor.

Summer Banner DIY

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Make your own “summer” banner to hang over your window, mantle, or in your dining room. Print out this pdf, and print on the paper of your choice. I used 12×12 scrap book paper that looked like an old book and cut it to 8.5×11. I printed the letters on the paper, then cut. Punch a hole on each side at the top of each card. String your desired choice of ribbon or string through the holes and hang. Enjoy!
