Nautical Necklace DIY

Friday, July 9th, 2010
I made this nautical inspired necklace for the 4th of July weekend. Here is the “how to”:
You need:
- rope (I found it in the ribbon area at Hobby Lobby. I wanted a “middle” size, but they only had large and small, so I braided the small ones together.)
- ribbon in the color of your choosing
- charms (I used nautical wine drink marker charms from Pottery Barn b/c they were on sale and so cute)
- scissors
If you are using the small rope and want to braid it, cut three pieces the same size then secure by tying together and taping to a table, or tying to a knob or even your toe. Braid the length of the rope.
Tie a knot at the end of the braid.
At one end of the braid, tie the ribbon near the knot. If you want a bow, leave enough room on the side to tie it.

Then measure how long you want your necklace to be, and tie the other end of the ribbon to the other end of the braid.

I am wearing mine wrapped around twice, with the ribbon and bow on the side.
You could also leave the necklace as is and tie a knot near the bottom and wear without charms.
Next, add your charms randomly around the braid. I hooked mine in the braid with a ring. You could attach your charms with ribbon or string. I also added another ribbon bow on the other side. There are many different variations on how you could make your necklace. If you make one, I would like to see it!
Have a great weekend!

July 4th Festivites

Thursday, July 8th, 2010
We had a great 4th of July weekend. Brooks had such a great time all weekend, but especially at the baseball game and fireworks (or “boom” as he called them).
We spent time with family, went to a movie, ate lots of good food, stayed up late, grilled out, and celebrated a late fathers day. It was a great relaxing weekend. Brooks was so tired, he took an almost four hour nap Tuesday.
Brooks enjoyed eating cotton candy at the game. He liked all the clapping and yelling. By the end of the game he was putting his arm up and yelling “charge!”
He got to run the bases with his Poppa after the game and fireworks. He was so happy, his little legs were running as fast as he could following Poppa. He liked it so much they went around twice.
Hope your weekend was great, too. Stay tuned tomorrow for a nautical necklace DIY.
